Director's Guild Awards - Sat Feb 3rd
Will this be the ultimate factor in determining Best Picture???
Granted Letters isn't nominated (Dreamgirls instead) but the rest are the there!
As for The Best Director Oscar, the DGA winner and the Oscar winner for director have matched in 52 of the last 58 years, including last year, when Ang Lee won both trophies for "Brokeback Mountain."

Sunshine wins SAG ensemble and Producer's Guild - does that mean Best Picture too??
11 of the last 17 Producers Guild Best Pictures have won the Best Picture Oscar...
"The PGA trophy certainly gives Sunshine added Oscar clout -- 11 of 17 PGA best picture winners have gone on to nab the Academy Award -- but it hasn't been an accurate predictor the last two years. In 2005 and 2006, PGA honored The Aviator and Brokeback Mountain respectively, while the Oscars went to Million Dollar Baby and Crash." From EW.
But then I found these stats: How many films have won Picture without being nominated for Best Director in the last 70 years? ONE.
How many films have won Best Picture with only 4 nominations in the last 65 years? ZERO.
How many films have won Picture while winning only one other Oscar in the last 60 years? ZERO.
How many films have won SAG Ensemble and gone on to lose Best Picture in the last 11 years? FIVE.
Makes you think the best picture race is still open. Departed?? Babel (Gosh I hope not!)

Don't Bet Against Eddie or Jennifer!
Oscar Watch has a great chart comparing golden globe and SAG winners with the Oscar winners. Don't bet against Eddie Murphy or Jennifer Hudson at this point. Historically, when a nominee wins both the Globe and the SAG, they will win the Oscar too.
EW Predictions - Babel for Best Pic???
Entertainment Weekly has a pretty cool interactive prediction site.

They are historically very accurate with their predictions. EW.com

SAG Winners! Could these predict the Oscars??
Cast in a Motion Picture: Little Miss Sunshine
Male Actor in a Leading Role: Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland
Female Actor in a Leading Role: Helen Mirren, The Queen
Male Actor in a Supporting Role: Eddie Murphy Dreamgirls
Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Jennifer Hudson, Dreamgirls
It seems all of them have alot of momentum. Sunshine doesn't have a best director nom but of the last 7 years, the SAG ensemble winner has won best pictures 4 times. Not bad odds...
